About the creator of The Inferential Investor:
Andy West is the author of a new book that is currently being completed called The Inferential Investor that explores AI’s capabilities for investment selection, research and analysis and how to put it into practice. This is the companion website which adds real-time content as techniques and capabilities continue to evolve as well as insightful stock research using those same techniques.
Over a 25-year career in financial markets, Andy has worked across the full spectrum of investing - from co-founding an international hedge fund to executing private equity deals for a large commercial bank. He earned his PhD in Finance at the age of 26 with published peer reviewed academic research on market price formation and also consulted for Derivatives exchanges on their generational transition to electronic trading platforms.
After a decade in private equity, Andy joined a hedge fund in the lead-up to the Global Financial Crisis, rising to Deputy Head of Fundamental Strategies after navigating that chaotic market period with strong returns. In 2014, he co-founded his own hedge fund, managing portfolios through volatile global events including global economic cycles, trade wars, the pandemic, and geopolitical upheaval. His firm received recognition including the Best Hedge Fund Manager Marquee award from AsianInvestor in 2021 and being nominated by EurekaHedge for Best Asian Hedge Fund in 2019 and past AsiaHedge nominations for Best Arbitrage and Market Neutral Fund and Best Asia incl Japan Funds.
Throughout his career, Andy has witnessed firsthand the benefits of technological advancements to fundamental investing - from his time consulting on Futures exchange’s adoption of electronic trading, to implementing proprietary in-house built research systems in his own hedge fund.
